Man sentenced for rape of woman in Littlehampton flat
A West Sussex man has started a four-and-half-year prison sentence after being convicted of raping a woman in a Littlehampton flat more than two years ago.
Timothy Evans, 30, unemployed, of Blenheim Road, Yapton, was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on Wednesday (6 September),
He had been convicted on 26 June, after a trial, of raping the woman then aged 32, at a flat in Surrey Street, Littlehampton, on 5 April 2015.
Both had been at a party there, and she fell asleep in a bedroom, waking to find Evans assaulting her.
PC Steve Hargrave said; "This was reported to us on the same day and we quickly arrested Evans.
"Both Evans and his victim were members of the local street community and it took some time to gain the confidence of several witnesses, and of the victim herself.
"After an investigation we charged Evans, on the authority of the CPS, in March last year and the case has been before the courts since then.
"This was a complex and thorough investigation and we are glad that justice has now been done for the victim."
